What Causes Dark Circles?
News flash despite a common belief that deep, dark circles under your eyes are not primarily caused by being tired or stressed. Research concludes that while being tired and or stressed is never a good thing it’s just not the cause of this problem. In fact, dermatologists and plastic surgeons alike seem to agree that dark circles are caused by capillaries that leak blood close to the surface of the skin.
When the blood begins to oxidize it turns a bluish red color, similar to an ugly bruise. Since the skin under the eyes is very thin, this leads to the appearance of those embarrassing bags and dark circles. The more transparent your skin and the more blood that pools under it, the darker the circles appear. This discoloration over time can become permanent. It is also not a good idea to touch the skin beneath the eye. This simple action is thought to have an undesired effect.
